Downtown LA

Hollywood to LAX — Car Service for Airport Transfers

Downtown Los Angeles is where JM Transportation Services is rooted. Our address — 448 S Bonnie Brae Street — sits just west of the 110 freeway, which is also the primary artery connecting downtown to LAX. We know this part of the city the way locals know their own neighborhood, because it is our neighborhood.

The distance from downtown LA to LAX runs between 12 and 18 miles depending on where exactly you’re starting. The Financial District is closer to 12. Little Tokyo and the Arts District push toward 15. South Park and the areas near USC sit closer to the midpoint. Regardless of your origin within the downtown core, the I-110 is your freeway, and the I-105 is your final approach.

Who’s Traveling from Downtown Los Angeles

Downtown Los Angeles is no longer just a traditional business core. It has evolved into a true mixed-use district with office towers, hotels, cultural institutions, entertainment venues, and a growing residential population. The travelers leaving downtown for LAX reflect that range.

The Financial District

Along Figueroa Street between 4th and 9th, the Financial District generates a steady volume of business travel. Law firms, investment banks, real estate companies, and corporate offices in towers such as the Wilshire Grand and US Bank Tower send executives to LAX frequently.

These are time-sensitive departures where being late is not an option.

The Arts District

East of the 101 and stretching toward the LA River, the Arts District now draws creative professionals, tech workers, and media producers. As the area has expanded, so has demand for professional transportation from addresses that were industrial warehouses not long ago.

Little Tokyo

Centered around 1st Street and Alameda, Little Tokyo sees significant international visitor traffic, particularly from Japan. In this part of downtown, communication and accessibility matter.

Bilingual service can make the experience smoother for travelers whose primary language is not English.

South Park

Immediately north of the 10 freeway, South Park is anchored by Crypto.com Arena, the Los Angeles Convention Center, and several major hotel properties.

Convention travelers, event attendees, and arena-adjacent clients remain a consistent part of downtown airport transportation demand.

Route Options from Downtown LA to LAX

I-110 South to I-105 West

This is the primary route and, for most departures, the correct one. From downtown, you're already on or near the 110 — it bisects the entire district. Head south through South LA, pick up the 105 westbound at the Hawthorne interchange, and follow it into LAX. The 105 is well-engineered for airport access. It's wide, relatively free of surface-level interference, and connects directly to the airport loop.

Surface Streets Through South Central

For certain midday and late-evening trips when the freeway is unexpectedly slow, the surface street grid through South Central provides a workable alternative. Vermont Avenue, Normandie Avenue, and Western Avenue all run north-south toward the 105 and can be navigated efficiently by a driver who knows when to use them. This isn't the first choice — it's the contingency that matters when it's needed.

Normal travel time: 25 to 40 minutes depending on origin within downtown and traffic conditions. With peak-hour congestion on the 110: 45 to 65 minutes. We recommend departing at least 90 minutes before your flight’s boarding time for most weekday trips.

Business Travelers and the Convention Center Corridor

Street, just north of the 10 freeway. When a major convention is in town  and there’s usually something the surrounding blocks experience a concentrated surge of departures over a 24-hour window as the event ends. Law conferences, medical conventions, tech expos, trade shows. All of these generate airport transfer demand at scale.

If you’re a convention organizer or a business managing group travel from a downtown event, our vehicles seat up to six passengers each. Multiple trips, coordinated timing, and a consistent pickup process are all manageable with advance planning. Contact us before the event to establish a schedule.

The Crypto.com Arena generates its own travel demand especially on nights when a major event draws visitors from out of town who have a flight the next morning. South Park hotel guests often need early morning transfers after late-night events.
